Life
After Recruiting
By:
Christine Hirsch
|
|
Corporations
are downsizing, search firms lack business, freelance
work has dried up, and contractors are now doing
contingency work. Its about enough to make a recruiter
cry -- or leave the profession altogether.
Difficult economic times are prompting more and
more recruiters to switch to alternative career
paths. Some are leaving permanently, others are
just holding tight until the next economic upsurge
comes along.
Demand
for recruiters depends on the churn of the market.
When the US economy was flourishing, recruiters
switched out of corporate recruiting to follow entrepreneurial
opportunities. The business environment created
demand for top-performing recruiters with specialized
skills. Niche expertise was at a premium and competition
was tight. Growth opportunities kept the industry
fresh and dynamic. In today's market, recruiters
today are fighting to survive rather than competing
to be the best.
Diversifying,
rather than specializing is the norm. Recruiters
much be able to cover more ground and be more flexible
to win and keep engagements.

Emergency
Readiness
Preparing a Corporate Contingency
Plan
By:
RW Special Reports
|
|
As the US
moves deeper into conflict with Iraq, it is important
to be ready for swift and unexpected change. Change can
come on many fronts, from shifting operations as reservists
are called to duty, to providing support for employees
with relatives in the armed forces. Readiness today also
means being prepared for the worst case scenario. The
9-11 attacks found US companies ill equipped to respond
under emergency circumstances. As a result, many organizations
are now investing in contingency plans that cover communications
and operations in case of a national crisis.
