What
do College Students Really Want? |
| By:
Ned
Steele |
|
What
do college students want these days?
A
good job with a company that understands the concept
of profit, to be sure. But much more than that, even
in this year of uncertainty, students are concerned
with issues like communication, attention, and respect.
I
recently caught up with a panel of student job-seekers
staged
in San Diego this summer by IQPC.
The panel let students speak freely about campus recruiting,
as they told recruiters just what they thought of
the college-recruiting process.
The
panel was quite an earful and an eye-opener, I must
say. It's simply fascinating to hear how students
experience and respond to the methods we consider
"best practices." Following
are some of the most poignant issues and opinions
expressed by the panel.

Global College Recruiting, Part I
By: Recruiters World Special
Reports |
|
College
recruiting is now a global affair. US colleges and universities,
like US companies, are increasingly going global, and recruiters
are responding to the challenge. Edward A. Malloy, President
of Notre Dame University, cites four ways in which higher
education crosses borders:
- The
growing presence of international students on US campuses
- An
emphasis on international issues in college curriculums
- US
students studying and traveling abroad in increased numbers
- The
increased focus on global issues in academic research
Small
wonder that companies now have to consider the global aspect
of campus recruiting. But doing so raises all kinds of new
challenges. In this two-part
series, we'll explore the changing global college recruiting
scene.

Effective
Strategies for Reaching College Students
By: Roberto Angulo |
|
Employers
experience constant competition when trying to attract top
graduates to their companies. Irrespective of economic downturns,
long-term projections indicate that over the next 15 years,
the number of workers age 25 to 44 will decline by 15%.
Finding top technical talent in engineering and IT will
be especially difficult. This means a shortage of young
workers, which will put even more pressure on companies
to find cost-effective ways to recruit college students.
Following are some competitive strategies that employers
can utilize to reach students and stay ahead of the competition.
