Part I: Getting the Most Out of Recruiting Research Firms
By: Christine Hirsch

Finding qualified candidates is the definitive task of the recruiter. Recruiters accomplish this task through a variety of methods: on the web, at conferences or networking events, in line at the supermarket, or even at the local coffee shop. Sometimes, however, a more targeted search is needed. For specialized positions that call for candidates with niche skills, the expertise of a recruiting research firm may be required.

Case in point: a major food-service company is looking for a new chief procurement officer -- fast. As the company's in-house staff is relatively inexperienced, the client prefers to recruit from outside the company. The candidate must have existing relationships with top vendors, thorough knowledge of industry standards, and some management experience. Placed in the above situation, the recruiter quickly realizes that candidates with the required skills aren't just hanging around the unemployment office. The only acceptable candidates are likely employed by the company's competitors.

Faced with the daunting task of quickly uncovering a cadre of qualified passive candidates, it may be time to engage the services of a recruiting research firm.

Top Strategies from the EMA
By: Recruiters World Special Reports

Economic slowdown or not, the war for talent is alive, well, and in many industries and regions, as bruising as ever.

The need to keep waging and winning the talent war was evident everywhere at recruiting's preeminent event, the recent Employment Management Association (EMA) conference, set in Chicago. From a show of hands at one session, (revealing that a majority of the audience was still busy hiring), to presentations on economics and demographics, (pointing to long-term labor shortages courtesy of ongoing job creation and imminent Baby Boomer retirements), EMA speakers offered their take on the hiring climate.

Tracking Resumes Submitted for Review

Why is it so challenging to track resumes that you distribute to clients or colleagues for review? It doesn't have to be -- not if you manage things up front.

One of the many useful features of Resume infoFinder Gold is its ability to e-mail resumes mined on the Internet. Single or multiple resumes can be distributed instantly when you select the program's Options/E-mail function. Working with your Outlook, Lotus Notes, or other e-mail program, Resume infoFinder Gold automatically creates a new e-mail message and attaches the selected resume(s) to it.
